Medical Problems Can Become A Bigger Issue Due To Periodontal Disease
The vast majority of the public are completely unaware that periodontal disease and gum disease are both the same condition-just with different names. The fact is that periodontal disease is a scientific name that actually refers to an entire class of medical problems relating to gingival tissue. Gum disease may be more of a basic or common way of talking about periodontal issues but they both refer to problems caused by anaerobic bacteria in the oral cavity. These harmful bacteria cause an infection in your gums that depletes the immune system while leaving you at a greater risk for serious medical problems such as stroke or heart attack. However, like many medical conditions, treating gum disease is complicated because there are several different variations to contend with, such as: gingivitis, chronic periodontitis, aggressive periodontitis, periodontitis as a manifestation of a systemic disease and necrotizing periodontitis.
