What can growing bonsai teach us?
Posted in General on July 2nd, 2008Growing bonsai trees as a hobby can be a fine stress reliever, as it has been shown by some studies that taking up bonsai as a hobby aids in improving concentration, patience, and stills the mind from other mundane cares. When you are engrossed in trimming and pruning your bonsai trees, the cares of the outside world seem to fade into oblivion.
The next time you’re thinking of a hobby to take up, why not consider bonsai? Bonsai is not a difficult hobby to practice, although you need to learn the basics of watering, pruning, feeding and training (styling) them. But once you get the hang of it, a bonsai tree can last a long time, and maybe even outlive you!
Bonsai teaches us that being patient can have its benefits. For example, when you style a bonsai by wrapping wire around it, it takes months before the bonsai tree adapts itself to your “training.” Bonsai teaches us that life has its parallels, just like a large tree has a counterpart in its bonsai cousin. Bonsai also helps us to focus on our goals; when you’re tending your bonsai tree, you shouldn’t think about anything else.
