6 Important Rules in Website Design and Hosting

Posted in Business, Internet on May 25th, 2008

When it comes to your website, extra attention should be paid to every minute detail to make sure it performs optimally to serve its purpose. Here are seven important rules of thumb to observe to make sure your website performs well.

1) Do not use splash pages

Splash pages are the first pages you see when you arrive at a website. They normally have a very beautiful image with words like “welcome” or “click here to enter”. In fact, they are just that — pretty vases with no real purpose. Do not let your visitors have a reason to click on the “back” button! Give them the value of your site up front without the splash page.

2) Do not use excessive banner advertisements

Even the least net savvy people have trained themselves to ignore banner advertisements so you will be wasting valuable website real estate. Instead, provide more valueable content and weave relevant affiliate links into your content, and let your visitors feel that they want to buy instead of being pushed to buy.

3) Have a simple and clear navigation

You have to provide a simple and very straightforward navigation menu so that even a young child will know how to use it. Stay away from complicated Flash based menus or multi-tiered dropdown menus. If your visitors don’t know how to navigate, they will leave your site.

4) Have a clear indication of where the user is

When visitors are deeply engrossed in browsing your site, you will want to make sure they know which part of the site they are in at that moment. That way, they will be able to browse relevant information or navigate to any section of the site easily. Don’t confuse your visitors because confusion means “abandon ship”!

5) Avoid using audio on your site

If your visitor is going to stay a long time at your site, reading your content, you will want to make sure they’re not annoyed by some audio looping on and on on your website. If you insist on adding audio, make sure they have some control over it — volume or muting controls would work fine.

6) The most important - Host only with a Reliable Hosting Provider.

Before Chosing a Web Hosting Provider, read its reviews and always check the top 10 hosting providers. A good resource to research hosting providers is at webhostgalore.com…

Financial Planning For Retirement

Posted in General, finance, investing on May 24th, 2008

Now that I’m getting older, I’ve decided that I really need to start saving some money for retirement. I’m still in my mid-thirties, but I don’t even have as much as a single IRA in my name, so I’m definitely behind in the game. I’ve been reading news articles about how Social Security isn’t likely going to be around when I retire, so I know I can’t count on the government to take care of me. Plus, the cost of living just continues to skyrocket, which means that financial planning is even more important now than ever before.

As I said, I’ve never really worried about financial planning before, but I guess it’s better late than never. I don’t have a personal adviser for money matters, so I’ve been doing a little research on the Internet to try to find out how other people are saving up for retirement. I was pretty overwhelmed by the amount of financial planning information out there, so it’s definitely going to take me some time to weed through it all.

Buy A House

Posted in General, investing on May 23rd, 2008

There’s nothing that compares with the experience of when you first decide to buy a house. When I decided on buying a house with my wife, it had not even been a dream of mine before. It was simply something that I’d never thought of before, something that I perhaps should have thought about, but had never occurred to me. You see, owning a house is such a classic American dream that you never even think about it until you really have it made. I was married to a beautiful woman and trying to buy a house in the Atlanta. I definitely had it made.

Nonetheless, buying a house was no picnic. Although we found several houses that we really liked, none of them quite worked for us. We wanted the first house that we bought to be complete. When we were buying a house, we were also buying a home. We didn’t want to buy a house that was a so-called fixer upper. We wanted something that was well made, well maintained, and spacious enough for our needs. The problem is that it costs a lot of money to buy a house like that.

This is definately not a scam though. Having been promoting the little guy network now for 6 months I have never found or worked online with a more ethical company. The company owners are always available for any questions or queries with their own personal email, skype and phone numbers. This is very rare in this industry, which just goes to show that they have nothing to hide.

So is The Little Guy Network A Scam??  Not in a million years.

GAP Insurance?

Posted in finance on May 20th, 2008

GAP insurance is intended to pay you if a total loss of your vehicle occurs. Once this happens GAP insurance will pay the difference between the actual cash value of the vehicle and the current outstanding balance on your loan or lease.

Gap insurance is for car owners whose insurance does not pay the balance due on a vehicle when it’s totaled. Kelley Blue Book determines the replacement value, but interest rates and loan terms may cause the balance due to be more than the blue book value.

Most new car dealerships are offering this GAP insurance policy when you purchase a new car. there are also some used car dealers that offer it as well, but check the book value of the vehicle first before you spend $200 on GAP insurance that might not cover anything because the value of the vehicle is low.
